Watch The Birds And Tell Their Story

Birds tell us about our own smallness and God’s greatness.

This past summer I had the privilege of holding a hummingbird in my hand. I saw it at my feeder sitting very still for too long a time and I got concerned. I went over and slowly raised my hand. She didn’t move so I gently picked it up and stroked her head. She was alive and just looked at me for a few seconds. Then she slowly left my hand and flew off. It was very strange. I came to my own conclusion that she must have been very weary in her flight.

A few days ago my friend posted a video on Facebook of a bird being hand-fed from his window. I thought of my hummingbird, but this bird was feeding joyfully. I thought of my friend taking the video and how he and his wife are always joyful when I see them.

I, on the other hand, am not. I am more like the hummingbird who, when feeding, often goes comatose and has to be gently held, woken up and sent on her way.

I look back over the last few months and see where I have been hand-fed by God so many times because I was not able to feed myself. I am tired of everything.

When I receive something from His word that I know I never could think of on my own I feel I am being hand-fed.

When He speaks to me during my busy day and I am fighting to make it through, it is like a small, gentle wave nudging me towards my destination.

Life for all on some level is tiresome but God doesn’t want us to quit our calling.

When I am rested I am the joyful bird, still feeding on His provision and from His hand. He doesn’t hold back because I am tired. He doesn’t thrust me forward when I am overwhelmed with my own flight. He doesn’t put me on a diet and regulate how much He will give me. In fact, He gives…
