Our autism journey

Sometimes writing is the only that keeps my days straight. From thoughts to therapy we stay busy. I hear the connections Owen is making and I see the progress, he is starting to use a coded language of expression to tell me what he needs. He says to me “piggy market” when he wants me to rub his feet and do his compressions. He will grab my hands and place them on his feet. He’s in a thinking mood right now, only throwing out a few words here and there. “What’s the big idea”, he says, the newest of the learned expressions. And the funniest to me. Then I tried to explain something to him, correcting him for his actions and he says “hi”. He doesn’t always know how to handle his emotions or words in connection with his feelings. Saying “hi” is his comfort zone, that’s what he can process. Owen is fascinated by rocket ships and especially the space travels with the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. One of the first types of toy interaction that he actually mimicked how a toy would work was with his rocket ship. This is still exciting to me, because he doesn’t always play with toys. He generally will use toys as his comfort zone by piling them around him and sitting in the middle of them. Some days the challenges get me, but those days I want to work harder to find the solution. Life is what you make it, so let’s make it grand. Here’s to amazing day and living your dreams out loud. Smiles to all and donut daze!
