Juventus vs Cagliari

In the first game of the fresh season, we see The old lady taking on a familiar foe. Cagliari finished 11th last season and looking to move up the ranks this year.

The game started off quickly with Mandžukić knocking down a beautiful volley passed back to him by Lichesteiner. Cagliari came right back on attack slicing through what looked like shaky defending from Juventus but just couldn’t find one to fall. The absence of Bonucci was noticed in the first half.

Alex Sandro makes a terrible tackle and clips the back leg of a Cagliari forward as the ball goes behind he keeper for a corner kick. VAR(virtual assistant referee) awards Cagliari with a penalty. Farias, a Brazilian forward steps up to take the penalty. He attempts a stutter step and shoots, but Buffon reads the shot and calmly saves the penalty. After the penalty save and the first half, Cagliari didn’t have much of an attack as Juventus finds their footing.

For Juventus second goal, Pjanc makes a beautiful lob pass from the half way line to put Dybala in on goal to make the game 2–0.

Both Douglas Costa and Blaise Matuidi made their debuts today but unfortunately they didn’t make much of an impact by the time they checked in. After the 60th minute, Juve were already up 3–0 and were just controlling the tempo at that point.

The game ended in a 3–0 display of Juventus dominance, as expected. They have not lost a step in league play and want to go for their 7th straight Serie A title. Next up for the Serie A giants is Genoa. Cagliari are set to face the revamped AC Milan powerhouse.
